My Work in 3D

My thesis, 'Daylight Simulation' for my MS (Arch) from TexasA&M- got me into the world of 3D modelling and rendering.

Here are some samples of the work I've done over the years. It's a mixed bag of exterior as well as interior renderings. Some of these were created for my architect clients while some were made to explain my own designs. I use 3D simulation liberally as a tool to explain even smallest of details. Even though I like to sketch on paper for initial brainstorming, I like to quickly move on to 3D models as it helps me to work on finer details of construction geometry.

The thing about 3D simulation is that one wants to improve on it all the time. I can spot a dozen mistakes and keep tweaking it to get the perfect effect. But as a designer who wants to convince clients, I've realised that they are not looking at a very realistic rendering to understand the concept. Mostly they are happy to see the overall structure, colours and scale. I don't spend much time perfecting the look when I'm showing my own designs. But when I simulate for a brochure, I like to tweak and tweak it further- till my clients force me to hand over the images.

Here are some 3D skecthes for my own designs.

Made this one for the brochure of a set of two buildings we designed,
being constructed in Goa, India.

For overall structure and massing
These images look simple but play a huge role in helping clients make decisions very fast.

This or that?
A quick 3D to see proportion of different elements together.
Every once in a while I like to experiment with newer techniques. Here's one I made when I learnt to use daylight.

 .... and neon lights

Recently after looking at images on the net photo realistic rendering bug has bit me. I'm experimenting with vray. Here's the first look of a simple courtyard. More work needed on texturing and lighting. Getting there, slowly and steadily.
